Sonnen Motorcars Gas Saving Tips

Sonnen Motorcars wants you to enjoy driving your car, and with gas prices soring to new heights every month, we thought you might benefit from these government recommended tips for improving your gas mileage.

These 4 simple steps can save you a lot of money.

In fact on an older vehicle with infrequent maintenance, these 4 simple steps can cut your gas bill by as much as 50%.

1. Keep Your Engine Properly Tuned

Fixing a car that is noticeably out of tune or has failed an emissions test can improve its gas mileage by an average of 4 percent, though results vary based on the kind of repair and how well it is done.

Fixing a serious maintenance problem, such as a faulty oxygen sensor, can improve your mileage by as much as 40 percent.

Fuel Economy Benefit: 4% Equivalent Gasoline Savings: $0.16/gallon

Fuel Economy Benefit: 40% Equivalent Gasoline Savings: $1.60/gallon

2. Check & Replace Air Filters Regularly

Replacing a clogged air filter can improve your car’s gas mileage by as much as 10 percent. Your car’s air filter keeps impurities from damaging the inside of your engine. Not only will replacing a dirty air filter save gas, it will protect your engine.

Fuel Economy Benefit: up to 10%

Equivalent Gasoline Savings: up to $0.40/gallon

3. Keep Tires Properly Inflated

If you’ve been following the news, this one has gotten a bit of publicity lately. You can improve your gas mileage by around 3.3 percent by keeping your tires inflated to the proper pressure. Under-inflated tires can lower gas mileage by 0.4 percent for every 1 psi drop in pressure of all four tires. Properly inflated tires are safer and last longer.

Fuel Economy Benefit: up to 3%

Equivalent Gasoline Savings: up to $0.12/gallon

4. Use the Recommended Grade of Motor Oil

You can improve your gas mileage by 1-2 percent by using the manufacturer’s recommended grade of motor oil. For example, using 10W-30 motor oil in an engine designed to use 5W-30 can lower your gas mileage by 1-2 percent. Using 5W-30 in an engine designed for 5W-20 can lower your gas mileage by 1-1.5 percent. Also, look for motor oil that says “Energy Conserving” on the API performance symbol to be sure it contains friction-reducing additives.

Fuel Economy Benefit: 1-2%

Equivalent Gasoline Savings: $0.04-$0.08/gallon

Note: Cost savings are based on an assumed fuel price of $3.96/gallon.

Knowing that a quality experience is paramount in the minds of all our customers we take customer service very seriously.  We are always appreciative when a customer takes the time to let us know how we are doing.  Here is one of our recent customers on the Sonnen Motors shopping experience.


To whom it may concern, This is a letter of thanks to “Will”, one of your greeters. I recently needed to replace a headlight bulb, (drivers side), on my Jetta. I thought I could do it on my own and wound up having to bring it in. I had no appointment and yet Will heard what I needed and helped me out. He probably spent a good 15-20 minutes replacing the bulb, (much more difficult than the passenger side), and then when I asked him how much I owed, he waved me off and said no charge. I then tried to. give him some cash as a tip and he wouldn’t accept it. I have always been happy with the service at Sonnen and this is a perfect example why. Please forward this to Will’s supervisor. I hope Sonnen can recognize what a great employee he is.
